According to some, the Mayan calendar tells us the world will end Dec. 21 – or at least, to wonder if that might be true.
But that's not actually how the Mayan calendar works – and the Mayans say so themselves. It's the ending of an era, which is still significant, but that doesn't mean the end of the world.
At a talk about the supposed "end of the world," Simon Martin of Penn Museum said the predictions are based on only a small part of the calendar, and the predictions don't take the whole context and calendar system into consideration
All this end-of-the-world talk raises a good question, though:
If you knew the world was about to end, how would you spend your last few normal days?
(And yes, you can still answer this question on Dec. 22 and following – the question's still relevant.)
