Catholic church finds fresh ways to spread message in New Evangelization

Wagner’s ‘Die Meistersinger’ reaches back to Reformation, forward to World War II

The best music endures through history and transcends time. But knowing the historical context can add a new layer of meaning – take Richard Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg." Part of it was performed at the MU Choral Union concert Thursday. Written in the 1800s, it's characters reach back to the Protestant Reformation. As a Wagner piece, it as among the works embraced in Germany in World War II.

Student and atheist groups call for freedom of expression in Bangladesh

A group gathered in MU’s speaker’s circle Thursday to speak out against the Bangladeshi government and advocate for freedom of expression. Nearly 15 atheists participated in the Defend Dissent protest.

For many protestant churches across the country, worship attendance is stagnating or declining. Leaders of the Missouri conference of the United Methodist Church are developing a program to fight this trend – and Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church in Columbia is going through it.
