LISTEN: For Missouri monks, fruitcake is a slice of the divine

Listen to the story as it aired on KBIA 91.3 FM.

Catholic monasteries all over the country sell jelly, cheese, creamed honey and other products made by monks as a way to sustain their spiritual lifestyle.

At a small monastery in the Missouri Ozarks, the specialty is fruitcake. The monks there have been making it for 25 years. This year, thanks to extra media attention, they sold out earlier than usual.
